Nagasaki will always hold a special place in my heart. I lived there for five years in the late 90s. It’s a well -known tourist destination, with many wonderful spots to explore . Instead of writing about Nagasaki’s “greatest hits”, I thought I’d write about some of the lesser-known gems of this great destination.

長崎県は、僕にとって心温まる特別な場所です。90年代後半の5年間を過ごしました。観光地としてはもちろん、素晴らしい魅力の詰まった土地です。今回は、長崎県の「人気スポット」というより、あまり知られていない、とっておきのスポットを紹介します。

１.長崎の観光スポットとグルメ

精霊流し

Sh?r? nagashi is the one of the loudest festivals in the country. In mid -August, Nagasaki residents build hundreds of spirit boats for loved ones that have died the previous year. People take the boats in a parade through the center of the city, and the air is alive with the sound of thousands of firecrackers going off. Be sure to bring earplugs! At the end of the procession , the boats head toward the sea and are destroyed at the port.

お盆の時期になると、長崎の町をにぎわせるのは、精霊流し。盆前に死去した故人の霊を弔う遺族の思いが詰まった、何百の手作りの船が、町の中心に向かってさまざまな場所から流れてきます。爆竹の音があちらこちらで鳴り響き、とにかくにぎやかですので、耳栓をお忘れなく。行進を終えた船は海へと向かい、最後に港で壊されます。

Inasa-yama’s $10,000,000 view No visit to Nagasaki would be complete without a trek up Inasa-yama. The night view , which many say rivals those of Hong Kong and Monaco, is gorgeous . Locals can now boast a “ten-million dollar night view ”. Take a gondola to the top and snap some pics!

稲佐山に登らずして、長崎を去るべからず。香港やモナコの夜景と肩を並べるほどの豪華な夜景は、地元民からまさに「1000万ドルの夜景」とうたわれるほど。頂上までロープウェイがありますので、素晴らしい展望をカメラに収めてください！

Ryoma Sakamoto's Boots High up in the hills overlooking Nagasaki’s tera-machi are a large pair of boots and a boat’s steering wheel. This odd statue is dedicated to Ryoma Sakamoto, and is a symbol of his habit for wearing western-style boots with his traditional samurai garb. People can stand in the boots and have a grand view of the city and the mountains.

寺町を見下ろす高台には、侍姿で西洋のブーツを履いていたといわれる坂本龍馬にちなんだブーツと、舵輪があります。ブーツに足を入れて、長崎の街と山並みの壮大な景観を楽しめます。

トルコライス

Turkish Rice For a unique Nagasaki dish, try one of the many variations of Toruko-rice (Turkish rice), a kid’s dish dressed up for adults. Although each restaurant in the city has a different variation on the dish, it generally includes some kind of pilaf, a pork cutlet, and some curry. It’s not unusual to find spaghetti, hamburger or even cream sauce as a topping . The ironic thing is the dish has nothing to do with its namesake!

長崎発祥とされるトルコライスは、まさに大人版のお子さまランチ。店舗により種類もさまざまですが、一般的にはカレーピラフに豚カツが一皿に盛られ、さらにスパゲティやハンバーグ、クリームソースが添えられたものもあります。 ちなみに トルコにトルコライスはないので注意！

路面電車に乗ろう

The best way to get around the city is to grab a day pass to the streetcar and shuttle back and forth between the many tourist locales. Although there are only five main lines, the coverage is quite good, and you can hop on and off as you like.

長崎の街巡りに最適なのは路面電車。1日乗車券で主要な観光スポットを回りましょう。全5系統の路線はくまなく市内に張り巡らされているので、気軽に乗り降りして便利に使えます。

２.OMOTENASHI フレーズ

The next streetcar stop isn’t very far - just walk over there. You can catch the #1 line going to Akasako. 次の路面電車の停留所はすぐ先なので、歩いて行けますよ。赤迫に行く1番（の路面電車）に乗れます。

There’s a lot of good dishes to enjoy in Nagasaki, but if you want to try something different , just ask a local restaurant for ‘toruko raisu’. You might be pleasantly surprised!長崎にはおいしい料理がいっぱいあるけど、変わったものが食べたければ、地元のレストランでトルコライスを頼んでみてください。うれしい発見があると思いますよ。

You have to see the view from the top of Inasayama - it’s well worth the wait for the gondola. But beware - local legend says that couple who go to the top are destined to break up!稲佐山の頂上からの眺めは外せません。ロープウェイを待つだけの価値はあります。ただ、頂上まで一緒に行ったカップルは別れるという言い伝えもあるので、ご用心を！

There’s a small statue dedicated to Ryoma Sakamoto just up the hill. Did you know about his ties to Nagasaki? He lived here for quite some time.丘を登ったところに、坂本龍馬像があります。長崎は龍馬ゆかりの地と知っていましたか？　龍馬は長崎に長く住んでいたんですよ。
