人の性格は千差万別

There's an infinite variety of people's personalities.「人の性格は千差万別」。英語で性格や人柄、個性について話す場合、形容詞や名詞（person、character、personality、type）、動詞などを使って表現します。いくつか具体例を挙げてみましょう。
People say I'm pretty timid.
みんなからかなり気が小さいと言わる。
He's a kind, generous person.
彼は優しくて寛大な人ですね。
My mother does a lot of worrying.
母は心配性だ。
She has a smile for everyone she meets.
彼女は誰にでもいい顔する八方美人だね。
前置きはこれくらいにして、早速、練習しましょう！
英語で性格や個性を表現してみよう
Practice before theory.（理屈より実践）。穴埋めをしながら英語で性格や人柄、個性を表現する練習をしましょう。カッコに該当する単語を入れてください。ヒントとして、最初の1文字が与えられています（主語をHeに統一）。
形容詞で表現
(1) He's very ( c ), isn't he?（元気）
(2) He's very ( m ).（腰が低い）
(3) He's very shy and ( w ).（引っ込み思案）
(4) He's not very ( p ).（時間にルーズ）
(5) He's pretty ( a ).（自己主張が強い）
(6) He's ( f ) of himself.（うぬぼれている）
(7) He's ( o ).（自信過剰）
(8) He's ( c ) with money.（だらしがない）
(9) He's ( s ) to] the core.（頑固者）
(10) He's very ( s ) and loves talking to people.（社交的）
形容詞＋名詞で表現
(11) He's an ( a ) person.（活動的な）
(12) He's an ( o ) person.（思ったことをずばずば言う）
(13) He's a ( s ) person.（竹を割ったような）
(14) He's a very ( m ) person.（神経質な）
(15) He's such a ( r ) character. （地味な）
(16) He has a ( d ) character.（独特の）
(17) He's a ( s ) character.（怪しい）
(18) He has a ( r ) personality.（明るい）
(19) He has such a ( n ) personality.（ねちねちした）
(20) He has an ( a ) disposition.（人に好かれる）
動詞で表現
(21) He never ( g ) a joke.（冗談が通じない）
(22) He ( d ) things at his own pace.（マイペース）
(23) He tends to ( r ) through things.（せっかち）
(24) He has ( m ) out these days.（丸くなった）
(25) He always ( k ) a positive attitude.（前向きである）

(27) He ( h ) severe mood swings.（感情の起伏が激しい）

type＋関係代名詞＋動詞で表現
(31) I'm the type who likes to ( t ) things over very carefully.
私は物事をじっくり考える慎重派です。
(32) I'm the type who ( p ) more importance on content than style.
私は形よりも中身を重視します。
(33) He's the type who never ( l ) to what people say.
彼は人の言うことに耳を貸さない。
(34) She's the type who immediately ( c ) about things she doesn't like.
彼女は嫌なことはすぐに嫌と言ってしまう性格だ。
(35) He must have been the type who ( d ) nothing but study when he was a student.
彼は学生時代がり勉だったに違いない。
(36) She herself says she's the type who ( f ) in and out of love at the drop of a hat.
彼女は熱しやすく冷めやすいタイプだと自分で言っている。
(37) I'm the type who never studies unless ( f ) to by circumstances.
僕は追い込まれないと勉強しないタイプだね。
(38) He's the type who'll ( c ) a grudge forever.
彼はいつまでも根に持つんだよ。
(39) He's the type I just can't ( m ) friends with.
彼とは友達になれないね。
(40) She's the type whose feelings are easy to ( t ) from her expression.
彼女は感情が表情に出やすいのですぐにわかる。
31～38は、whoの代わりにthatも使用可。39ではwho / thatが省略され、40ではwhoseが使われています。

cheerful「元気な、陽気な」。
(2) He's very ( modest ).
modest「腰の低い、謙虚な」。
(3) He's very shy and ( withdrawn ).
shy「恥ずかしがりの」、withdrawn「内向的な」。
(4) He's not very ( punctual).
・not very punctual 「あまり時間を守らない」⇒「時間にルーズ」。
(5) He's pretty ( assertive ).
・assert「 主張する （動詞）」、 assertion 「 主張 （名詞）」。
(6) He's ( full ) of himself.
・be full of oneself「自分のことばかりを考える」。
(7) He's ( overconfident ).
・overconfident「自信過剰な、いい気になった」。
(8) He's ( careless ) with money.
・be careless with ～「～に不注意な、無頓着な」で「だらしがない」を表現。
(9) He's ( stubborn ) to the core .
・ stubborn 「頑固な、強情な」、 to the core / bone「根っからの」。
(10) He's very ( social ) and loves talking to people.
・socialize「人付き合いをする」という動詞もあります。loves talking to people「話し好き」。
ここで一息。小声でもごもご言っていても英語を話す筋肉は鍛えられません。
(11) He's an ( active ) person.
・ active 「活動的な」。 inactive はその反意語。
(12) He's an ( outspoken ) person.
・outspoken「率直な」で「思ったことをずばずば言う」を表現。
(13) He's a ( straightforward ) person.
・ straightforward 「まっすぐな」で「竹を割ったような」を表現。
(14) He's a very ( meticulous ) person.
・meticulousには「几帳面な」という意味もあります。
(15) He's such a ( reserved ) character.
・ reserved 「地味な、控えめな」。
(16) He has a ( distinctive ) character.
・ distinctive 「独特の」。 unique でも同じような意味に。
(17) He's a ( suspicious ) character.
・ suspicious 「怪しい」の代わりに shady 「うさん臭い」も使えます。
(18) He has a ( radiant ) personality.
・radiant「光り輝く」。brightも使用可。「ねくら」は gloomy で表現。
(19) He has such a ( nagging ) personality.
・nagging「しつこく文句を言う」で「ねちねち」を表現。
(20) He has an ( amiable ) disposition .
・amiable「人に好かれる、感じのいい」、 disposition 「性質、気質」。
棒読みは禁物。強弱リズムを忘れずに。
(21) He never ( gets ) a joke.
・この場合のgetは「わかる、理解する」という意味。
(22) He ( does ) things at his own pace.
・do things at one's own pace「物事を自分のペースでやる」。atを使っている点に注意。
(23) He tends to ( rush ) through things.
・ tend to rush through thingsの文字通りの意味は「物事を急いで済ます 傾向 がある」。
(24) He has ( mellowed ) out these days.
・ mellow out「落ち着く」で「丸くなる」を表現。
(25) He always ( keeps ) a positive attitude.
・keep a positive attitude「前向き（積極的な）態度を保つ」。 positive の逆はnegative「消極的な」。
(26) Her cheerful character ( attracts ) friends.
・attract「引きつける」。attractiveは「魅力的な」という意味の形容詞。
(27) He ( has ) severe mood swings.
・動詞にhaveを使用。sever mood swings「気分の激しい変化」。
(28) He never ( continues ) things for very long.
・never continue things for very long「物事をあまり長く続けられない」⇒「三日坊主」。
(29) He ( sees ) things as black and white.
・ see things as black and white「物事を白か黒かで見る」で「物事を割り切って考える」を表現。
(30) He's always ( hated ) the thought of losing.
・hate the thought of losingの文字通りの意味は「負けるという考えを嫌う」。
残り10。英文が少し長くなります。いい加減な発音にならないようにしっかり声を出して音読しましょう。
(31) I'm the type who likes to ( think ) things over very carefully.
・think things over very carefully「物事をとても注意深く熟考する」。
(32) I'm the type who ( places ) more importance on content than style.
・ place more importance on A than B「BよりもAに重きを置く」。
(33) He's the type who never ( listens ) to what people say.
・never listen to ～「～を決して聞かない」で「耳を貸さない」を表現。
(34) She's the type who immediately ( complains ) about things she doesn't like.
・ immediately complain about ～「～について すぐに 文句を言う」。
(35) He must have been the type who ( did ) nothing but study when he was a student.
・do nothing but study 「勉強ばかりする」⇒「がり勉」。
(36) She herself says she's the type who ( falls ) in and out of love at the drop of a hat.
・ fall の後にinと out of を使っている点に注目。at the drop of a hat「 すぐに 」。
(37) I'm the type who never studies unless ( forced ) to by circumstances.
・ unless (I'm) forced to ( study ) by circumstancesの意味は「状況によって勉強するように追い込まれなければ」。I'mと study が省略されています。
(38) He's the type who'll ( carry ) a grudge forever.
・carry a grudge「根に持つ、恨みを抱く」。
(39) He's the type I just can't ( make ) friends with .
・ make friends with ～「～と友達になる」。
(40) She's the type whose feelings are easy to ( tell ) from her expression .
・tellの意味は「わかる、知る」。
